The Winery
Since 2016, the winery has been converting their 100+ hectares of vineyards to organic farming. The winery is currently in the process of completing their B-Corp certification, a rigorous set of criteria that promotes sustainability in all areas, from organic agriculture to eco-friendly packaging to renewable sources of energy to responsible employment practices.
Meet the woman behind the women
Once upon a time I was training to be an opera singer and ended up living in Italy for 8 years. I was an ‘okay’ singer, but I was really good at speaking Italian and tasting wine, so I became a wine importer. Over the years, I’ve curated and managed some of the most respected Italian wine portfolios in the U.S. — including Massanois, Polaner Selections, and Skurnik Wines — and today, as the only woman partner at boutique U.S. importer The Piedmont Guy, I’m known as The Piedmont Gal.
After two decades of working with Italian winemakers and helping build some of the most beloved brands in the U.S., I saw a need in the market for more sustainable packaging without sacrificing quality — wines that are organic, low alcohol, and low sugar, in a format that fits modern life.
That’s how Giovese Family Wines was born — my personal creation: a fresh, fun, organically farmed Italian box wine built on the same quality standards I’ve always stood by. I’ve often joked that my alter ego was Sandy Giovese — a play on the name of one of Italy’s greatest red grapes, Sangiovese — so that’s where I started. Sandy became the first and flagship wine of the brand, embodying everything I wanted Giovese Family Wines to stand for.
For variety, Sandy was soon joined by her charming sister, Rosie Giovese (because everyone loves pink wine), and — new as of 2024 — her sister Bianca Giovese, a zesty Italian white. Together, they became the Giovese Family Wines collection: three sisters, three personalities, one shared commitment to quality and sustainability.
Our dream is for everyone to enjoy a chilled glass of honest, juicy wine from a box that also happens to help save the planet.
We’ve now imported over 25,000 cases, proving that the market is craving better wine in better packaging.
